Fears, Phobias, & Anxiety

Phobias and fears can have a negative affect on all areas of life including work, relationships, and health. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that 18 million Americans struggle with anxiety, fears, and phobias.

Some phobias are specific such as a fear of heights, discomfort when flying, or a fear of spiders. Other fears may be more generalized including social phobias, fear of embarrassment or public speaking, and negative self-talk. Rather than address the specific fears or phobias, people often live their lives by avoiding the subject or their anxiety. Often phobias and fears are triggered by a traumatic childhood event.
